What is Baja SAE?
Baja SAE is a 3-4 day student design competition run by the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE). Teams of students from around the world participate to design, build, and test small off-road mini-Baja vehicles. Simulating real-world engineering design projects and their related challenges, teams are challenged to design and build a prototype for a reliable, maintainable, ergonomic, and economic production vehicle that serves a recreational user market. The students must function as a team to design, engineer, build, test, promote, and compete with a vehicle within the limits of the rules. Vehicles are judged on a series of static and dynamic events.
Static Events:
Technical Inspection
Design and Sales Presentations
Design and Cost Reports
Dynamic Events:
Brake Check
Hill Climb
Acceleration Test
Maneuverability Test
4 Hour Endurance Race
Specialty Events
(Rock Crawl, Mud Bog, Suspension)
